July 14, 2014

So I have been a bit distracted this week and can't believe I forgot to put up Carson's last letter.  Oops...Sorry!   It was a "Powerful" and "Kabisa" kind of week for him I think...only because he mentions this multiple times in his letters!!!   By the way..."kabisa" has a few different meanings...it can mean quite, or absolutely, or completely, or entirely or even exactly.  Just a little helpful insight for reading his notes!

Hey mom hey all is well this side i haven't eaten any lizards lately Hmmmm but all is well.
Ya for this week not much has changed but i have an new companion. Elder Tauzie for Malawi He was my first Zone leader in Dar and now he is my comp i am really excited and also he is going home in 5 weeks so ya i get another companion soon. But ya we have been working kabisa this week. We are finding lots of people so people are giving us refurals and wanting us to go teach at some schools. Elder Kabwe is of to green pastures in Arusha he is doing good but he has a small family and they are having some struggles but all is well. Bevans are doing good but they they always want to come with us and stuff. But we don't have cars and r appointments are kindly all over the place so i think these other guys kindly killed these couples. not really member presents because these people here are kindly less active but theyy are powerful. The language is killing me kabisa not really some days i feel as if i am getting it but than other days it is like nope nope nope. But All is well and going good. Thanks for the quotes really powerfull asante sana.
Ok thanks again for writing hope to write to u today soon.
Thanks again
love you lots

Good morning Carson.  It's not quite 5:30 am here yet and the birds are just chirping away like crazy outside.  Who needs an alarm clock?  That's kind of crazy that they want you to teach in the schools.  What kind of stuff do they want you to teach?  English or religion?  That's great that you get a new companion.  You're getting to know lots of people!  Bevan's are probably just really excited to be out there and are just fired up and ready to work!  What does that mean that the other guys killed the couples?  Don't worry about the language...I bet you know it better than you think!!!

Any big plans today or for the rest of the week?
Love you lots too!

Hey good morning there mom. These people want us to teach them about  Religion. Well the couples went to work with them and push came to shove and they walked for something like 8 hours and ya never asked again. Not really just to chill and enjoy mondays.

I think that's amazing that they want you to teach religion in the schools.   You never hear about people wanting that sort of thing anymore.  So let me get this straight...the previous elders made the senior couples walk with them for eight hours and then the couple didn't ever ask to go with them again?  Is that it?  What do the senior couples usually do in the mission?  I thought that they were there for your support but mostly to ensure the branch is running smoothly. Like member support.
How's your health lately?  Get over your last bit of sickness yet?  What's your favorite food in Mwanza?  Do you cook your own meals there or is it easier to eat out?

Well ya it was funny they were always like elders we want to work with u so they did and they were burned and they didn't see or hear from them for two days. I don't know the other couples just chilled. going good. poof i hate being sick. Samaki and ugali ya we cook our selves. well these guy cook all i do is cut up what they tell me.

That is kind of funny.  Well, take it easy on the Bevans.  They are just new and excited!  I'm sure they'll enjoy  a nice walk now and then!  Ok..I know what ugali is...but what is Samaki?  Sounds interesting.  Do you ever make any kind of Canadian food for your companions?  Like bacon and eggs? or pancakes and maple syrup?   or do they have that over there?
How's the weather for you?  Does it get chilly at all over there?  Are you getting into winter season yet?

Samaki is fish their is none of that funny stuff over here, Today it was raining but it seems to have stopped ya right now is winter soon to turn into rainy season.

Yummy!  Ashlee would LOVE samaki I bet!!!  ha ha ha!  Learn lots of ways to make it so you can feed it to Ashlee when you get home.  Do you like it?  Any other foods over there that are new and exciting?  Besides lizard and fish?

How's the rain coat holding up?  Do you have any sudden bursts of rain like you did in Dar or are the storms a little easier to predict in Mwanza?

Any stories for me about the people you are teaching now?

Oh, I remember what I wanted to ask you.  I was showing the sunday school kids your pictures and we wanted to know about the baptismal font?  It looks like a big bucket on the ground but is it really?  or is it built down into the ground a bit?  Is it very deep?  Because in the picture it just looks like you'd have to lay flat in it to get wet.

Not really but goat meat is good too. Ya today it was really cold so it seemed like it. not really that i can report on right now. Ya it is basically a big bucket but in the ground a bit.

How deep is it?  Are there steps going down?  Would it come up to your waist at least?

Dad just walked by.  He's up to feed his horses now and said to say hi.  He's so cute!  The mosquitoes are KILLING us here!  It was such a wet spring so it grew lots of those nasty critters.  but they are massive and they swarm you as soon as you walk outside.  Even the poor horses are going nuts because of them.  How do you manage the mosquitoes over there?  Do they have DEET spray for that?  Do you use a lot of it?  Right now, Lethbridge is all sold out of any kind of bug spray.  I can't find any Off or Muskol or anything.  Maybe Dad will have to pick some up for us when he goes to Calgary.

It is deep the first baptism we had rawson was up to his chest in water and it was spilling out so i would say it is up to mide chest and no there is no steps.
Eh sorry i don't know there isn't to many mosquitoes here we just chill and we have a fan on at night so they don't eat us kabisa

That is kind of interesting!  Thank goodness you don't have too many mosquitoes there.  They are killing us here though so you're lucky!

How's the new companion?  You said he's going home soon?  What's he planning on doing when he's done his mission?  Are you still a zone leader up there or did you get released when you got transferred?  Have you had to train anybody yet?

Ya sorry about that. He is powerful yup he wants to go to BYU yup still a ZL Nope Nope Nope
So ya almost out of time so ya talk to you next week mom thanks again for the chat.
Love you lots

These were the quotes I sent to Carson this week that he was talking about:

I found this great talk by Dad's old mission president, David E. Sorenson.  In it he talks about how some people struggle with the hardships in their lives and he says..."To do well does not mean everything will always turn out well.  The key is to remember that faith and obedience are still the answers--even when things go wrong, perhaps especially when things go wrong."

There was another article by Spencer W. Kimball about submitting to the will of the Lord:  "Being human, we would expel from our lives physical pain and mental anguish and assure ourselves of continual ease and comfort, but if we were to close the doors upon sorrow and distress, we might be excluding our greatest friends and benefactors.  Suffering can make saints of people as they learn patience, long-suffering, and self-mastery."

But the biggest highlights of the week for us was that Kaylee and Taylor got home from Trek!  We showed their before picture in last weeks post so here are their AFTER shots!!!

Aren't they cute?  They were tired and sunburnt but both had a great time!  Happy little pioneers!!!
