April 7, 2015

It was so good to hear from Carson today.  He is safe and sound and far away from that latest terrorist attack.  The next 5 months can't go fast enough for me.  I'm thankful he's on a mission and I know Heavenly Father will protect him...but I can't wait to get that boy back in my arms again!!!

This weekend was general conference and ever since that surprise announcement back in Oct 2012, I always make sure I watch the Saturday morning session for the announcements.  It will be just my luck that they'll change the mission length from 2 years to 3... starting immediately!  Thank goodness that didn't happen this time.  But there was a bit of a surprise at the Saturday afternoon session. When President Uchtdorf asked for the sustaining vote for the First Presidency as well as the 12 Apostles...there were a few people in the audience who stood up and shouted that they were opposed. I've never heard of that actually being done in conference before so it was a bit of a shock for me.  This is Carson's take on it....

REALLY WOW UM THAT IS REALLY INTERESTING. opposing those men is like trying to stop a grass fire without any Water. FIRE WILL COME. I heard when Pre. Spencer W. Kimball allowed Black to have the preisthood lots of people opposed and one of the Apostles stood up got to the pulpit and said "OK all that oppose here is the address to the church headquaters on this date and this time come and make your argument." Nobody showed up. Obviously i don't know about you but i wouldn't even think of doing that, Maybe i m alittle scared Elder Jeffery R Holland would come and blast me really nicely like.
But did you hear what they opposed??? or did they just oppose the wazee
Um as for your questions at the beginning well i would like to tell you everything but i don't think my fingres would survive doing all that writing might kill me.
but just whats going down.
All our investigators are pretty much member refferals so i never got to see them influenced at the start because there families where the one teaching them. but all of them are awesome and i will remember them kabisa never forget kind of a thing. That is why i go on facebook every now and then to talk easier to members from different branches and to talk to old missionary companions and yes to see news from home.
So from the people we re teaching Cynthia maimuna jacklen sondra stella benson and Bro juma
Out of all of them we are working with them for baptism, Some have problems with the word of wisdom and others with polygamy but overall each and every one is working hard and sometimes giving us hard times but all is well no complaints.
As for me and my comp all is going good. Really enjoying he has taught me alot and viss versa but ya i m happy health and enjoying mission all is well i have no complaints. unless they say that (Mission extended for 3 years) Thats why i say my call says 24 months where is my itinerary?
But all is well nothing more to report hope you all are doing good Love lots
Have a good week
Thanks
Love
Carson

Hi Carson,  so glad to hear from you!  The opposition....I think it was all a publicity stunt.  Probably from some of those crazy women who want the Priesthood and were recently excommunicated because they won't let it go.  But they were supposed to have some sort of rally after the meeting to meet with the press and only three showed up.  Big rally eh.  Just like what you were saying.  I wouldn't dare oppose those men.  I could handle being blasted...but I think I would melt when Pres Monson would say he loved me anyway.
Sorry about all the questions.  But I LOVE hearing what you had to say.  I know you think you do the same thing everyday...but it's those small things that are making a huge difference to people.  That's why I love to hear about it.  You are always making small but forward steps.  Love it!!!
Interesting about the problems with polygamy.  How would they manage that?  I can't imagine how they could just say "I'm only keeping one wife...the rest are free to go."  Which one would they keep if they loved them all?  And what if they had children with all those wives?  Are they just supposed to go on with out a dad?  I feel sympathetic towards them  a bit.  It must be hard.  (Must be from watching too many episodes of sister wives.)

Glad to hear you are safe and happy.  that's what I need to hear the most.  Did you ever hear any reports from that thing up in Garissa?  Did the mission pres have anything to say about it?
How's the new curfew and the suit wearing rules going?

oh ya that show is weird but this is the 2nd time that this has happened the first time it was easy just talked to the mzee and then he went and talked to a member to the mission presidency and all was sorted out.

But this time we are with the 2nd wife and she is really pissed at her husband, so I'm like if your marriage is n't good than leave him, but i can't say that because we talk a lot about family togetherness, and all that but we haven't got all the facts yet she says that she is the second wife but her husband enjoys fornication and other funny things like that and the bishop is like ya she is the first wife.  So where just like umm ya sweet oh confused much.

Wow!  That is tough.  I get that we are all about families forever blah blah blah....but there is also the whole thing of unrighteous dominion.  If the husband is not respectful of the wife...and that isn't looking like it will change...I think that the second wife is justified in making her own decision and leaving that marriage to look for someone who will respect her and offer her a chance at an eternal, happier marriage.  God wants us to be happy...not just endure.  And maybe she owes it not just to herself but to any children they might have, to make a better life for them all.  Just a thought I guess.  But good luck with that situation.  That is really difficult.
When it happened the first time...what do the second wives end up doing?

I think she lefted but he still was able to take care of the kids so it all worked out i guess.

Well, that's good then.  Hey by the way...did you ever hear any reports from that thing up in Garissa?  Did the mission pres have anything to say about it?

How's the new curfew and the suit wearing rules going?

ya i did really crazy. just to be careful and to stay away from really pubilic areas just for the fun of it.

Well that's good.  Are they still letting you ride the bus or are you back to being in taxi's?
Did you get lots of emails today?  I see Kaylee's on her iPod with you.
Any packages recently?  I ran out of brown paper bags but am going to the store to get some today.  Then I have four pringles cans that need to be wrapped and sent.  Then I think that might be the end of me sending packages for a while. Kind of sad....cause I liked putting them together for you.  But also...kind of exciting for me!  Hope you get them!  Did you get any of the Easter ones we sent?
Did you do anything exciting for Easter yesterday?

No we can still take buses.
Nope just from family nothing to interesting but kaylee is still mad about taylor in Rugby and not going to grandmas place.
Ya i got the birthday onces just barely. really nice thanks for the duct tape.
Not really we went to a wedding on Saturday but after that not much.

Ok...why is Kaylee so mad about Taylor in rugby anyway?

Glad you like the duct tape.  I was so excited to find camp tape!  Made me laugh.
A wedding!!!  Awww..so fun!  What's the biggest difference between a wedding in Canada and one in Africa?

I don't know
um there is a parade and lots more dancing and crazy stuff but really nice.

Carson...why couldn't I have had three more boys just like you?  you were soooo good to me.  Sigh.....Maybe I can come out to Africa and just live with you for a while and come back home when the girl drama is over.  I could be a good help to the mission.  Just tell your mission pres I wouldn't be the mooing mom anymore...I would clean all the apartments and just be a gopher for him!  And dad is better at dealing with these girls more than I'll ever be.

A parade at a wedding?  That sounds amazing!  Hope you are taking pictures of all these things!  I can't wait to see some. And writing down the details in your journal.  You'll have to give a few firesides later on...and you'll want to remember this stuff!

oh ok um ya sure we can switch i l go home and you can come here.
YA sure thats an idea but i think missionaries uses girls is different you should see some of these flatts to say the least there some how scary.
Ya sure thats is good some how

Whoa whoa whoa...who said anything about switching?  No no no...the whole purpose is to get AWAY from the girls and spend some time with you!  Why are the flatts really scary?  Like...messy/dirty scary?  Hey...I've cleaned up homeless people at the hospital before...not much scares me anymore.  (Except mice...I hate mice...oh and snakes. Bleh!)

well i m only here for a little bit so you can come but i ll be going back. Like imagine your worse nightmare and that is some flatts here.
One flatt we did have a mouse in the there it was a riot to get it out.  Screaming elders broomstick going everywhere. it was a blast.

That's ok.  Just a little bit will be a perfect amount of time.  Even a small break from the drama will be a breath of fresh air!!!!
Really???  Worst nightmare?   I've had some doozy nightmares before.  Is that what your flatt looks like?  Hopefully I taught you better than that.
I can't imagine big, tough, strong elders screaming over a little mouse.  That's what I would do!   Hey...you don't have any big spiders or nasty creepy crawly cockroaches over there do you?  That could change my mind.  Hmmmm.......

hahaha lets not get crazy now walimu.
But ya crazy spiders and cockroaches EVERYWHERE IT IS CRAZY

What's walimu?

Ok...mice...spiders...now spiders and cockroaches????   Deals off.  I guess I'll just learn to endure.  Maybe I'll pick up some more shifts at work.  That kind of chaos I was "trained" to deal with.

Teacher
Hey got to go LOve you lots
have a great week

Ken's letter......
ya thanks dad it is always good to hear from you.
Well as for me not much is going down, we might have a baptism next week we ll just have to see. and overall the work is going forward, haha yesterday we had ward council and they talked alittle about how the church was changing some of its standards (Building soccer fields instead of Basketball hoops, and toiletry) In the Future. By the way. haha people flipped kabisa wow wow it was funny because they thought the church was going to come and make the changes immediatly and change everything right then and there. wow me and my comp where just laughing. but other than that it has been a good week
Well hope you have a good one too good luck ith all that.
Love you lots
Carson
