November 24, 2014

Last week the girls and I had a dentist appointment.  (Yes I am cavity free...wahoo!)  Anyway, we always have to make our appointments 6 months in advance because he books up so fast.  So while I was making our next appointment...I had this brilliant idea to make an appointment for Carson for when he gets home.  Who knows what his teeth will look like after two years of rice, beans, ugali and roasted lizard.  So I mentioned this to Carson in my letter this week and then this is what Carson wrote me at six o'clock this morning...

MOM what have u done WELL NOW i ll extend my mission.... Just so i don't have to go,...

Seriously...that's the letter I get?  That's it?  So I played along...

):

Lots of crying happening this side but soon to be followed by...
 RETALIATION

Ummm...I'm actually a little afraid now.

hehe good one...
Hey this one is a good one

I started to think that this was all the email I would get from him when...FINALLY...I got my real letter!  (He starts out giving us some advice on what to do when children come home later than they are supposed to.)

Hahah hey mom well that sounds all good and fun times running that side EXCEPT FOR THE SCHEDULED DENTIST APPOINTMENT!!!!

oh well though any how... haha Really and honestly i don't know what u can do with that for me i never would have dreamed to do that because if i did i wouldn't know what would be waiting for me back home... For u it would be a smother... I would walk in and there u two would be waiting and u would see me and run and hug me tight.... all that would be fine alittle wierd but big kenny would be next hehe he (Nervous laugh *Cough*) ya dad i feared within seconds i could lose all privileges from driving to no video games to Walking myself to the church. If i remember that day i can't remember but i think it was either because i didn't feed his horses or i didn't go filing hey after that day he he he i learned very quickly... No i don't think i can give you any advice but u don't have to worry about me... when ever u say u want me home i ll be there an hour or hour and a half before the time u say...

ha stupid visa people... After surviving the plane ride which was not good nope nope. i crawled myself into the airport and i went to the check place and they looked at my passport and said my visa had expired and that i need to buy another one. So bring 50 $$$. I just looked at them and said i just came from tanzania can i pay with Ksh... That is all i had and they directed me to the visa office and i went in there and argued with them alittle but in the end i had to either give someone who worked there 5000 ksh to convert into dollars so i could pay for the strupid visa or get on the next plane to Canada. (Which by the way when he said that i was like. NO, DON"T TEMPT ME!!)
but in the end i brought the money and they exchanged it i got my change much to the ladies dislike and i was through and got my bag. and left the stupid place. After that i got my money back from the office and also they gave me my worker permit so i should be fine so long as i have it on me always...

My shoes are fine don't worry they will last until i finish so no worries.

My comp is doing good. He ll leave when this transfer ends so ya i ll be moved for a few days but other than that all will be fine...

Apartment is cool except it is at the top of the building so heights isnt doing to good but all is well and it is small so we don't stay with other elders. been a really big change on that side...

But ya all is well liking it here people are cool. Just have to stay away from the airport and cops and all will be fine..
Love you lots \
hope to talk some more

Well so nice to hear from you.  Last week you wrote me at about one am so this week I set my alarm for one then have been waking up once every hour hoping to see something from you.  Finally...you're there!  Ya!

Sounds like quite the adventure at the airport.  Was it just a little hopper plane that you rode?  Dad hates flying on a good day but I bet he would really hate the smaller planes.  Sorry about the whole visa thing.  I agree with the don't tempt me thing.

How high up is your apartment?  Is there really dump sites and slum cities in your view?  Do you have to go tracking into those areas?

Are all the cops corrupt there?  Good luck with that.

What's the weather like?  What has the temperature been?  Still cold?  Did you ever get the toques we sent?  Maybe you need those more than ever to stay warm.  Does your apartment have heating in it?

Stupid smal planes and these funny people don't know how to fly either... oh look a cloud lets drive right throw it... Oh wait there is our stop we ll better now then never DIVE BOMB YAHOOOOOOO... i thought i was going to puck honestly...

about 4 stories high... Yup a big dump and very interesting slums u can get stuck in,,, some times but we uusually just work with members and they give us some referrals

Some not all but they like money

Pretty nice around 20 24 some how ya i got those togues thanks eh but i got in a big argument with an american about it Clearly it is a Toque Not some girl handicap thing called a beanie...
Idiots bring up the point that it is french which i promptly reply a beanie just sounds wrong u funny boy just imagine MOOOOM where is my BEEEAAANNNIIIE that just sounds so so so so wrong...

no it is not that cold that it needs a heater but it is still some how cold don't worry it is getting me some how prepared to going home to the actually cold...

Here are some pictures of the TOQUES that I sent him....

Oh my goodness...that is so funny!  I totally agree about the toque...NOT a beanie.  Sounds weird when they call it that.  Keep it Canadian son!  Good job.

Tell me more about who you are teaching!!  I love that stuff.

Any big plans today?  Is the food there similar to what you've been used to in Tanzania?

Oops..gotta get out of bed for scriptures now.  See ya in a minute.

Well right now we are just exploring the area but we have a few people that we are trying to corral but most of what is going on here is the return missionaries they are working really hard and helping us out alot alot for sure....

Not really just trying to figure that out as we go...

Not really it is more big people food here and also it is some how more expensive here

That's great about the returned missionaries, I bet you get lots of referrals from them.

We saw some more pictures from the Bevans Facebook page and they were walking up this narrow path with huge boulders on either side...no wonder your shoes were destroyed.  It was kind of cool to see though.

What is big people food?  Like kale and vegetables and healthy food?  Ha ha!

Sorry about the expenses.  Do you need anything...or can we send anything for you?  Let us know if we can help in some way.  We love you!

Ha...just read the part about how you think 20-24 is cold and getting you prepared for winter here when you get home...um...24 is about the hottest it ever gets in the summer here.  Remember?  But put a minus sign in front of that...and welcome home Carson!   Ha ha ha!  Oh it will be fun!!!

ya hahaha
They aren't destroyed they are just we ll worked into i guess.
like expensive stuff that u wouldn't dream to find in Tanzania. IT is crazy but really really expensive.. Not really all is well this side i don't need anything really just hold out until i m just about to come home and they fill the house with root beer pizza buns and mint oreo brownies and maybe some banana bread.

oh no....

What is some of the food that is so expensive?  And how much is it?

Dad wants to know if you have one set of shoes that you set aside for sunday?  And a suit that you save for Sunday as well?

Bread is like 50 - 100 ksh sodas are 50 ksh and little chocolate bars are like 100 ksh almost cried when i saw that.

Some how i have been wearing both pair this week but that was because of the mud. generally don't wear a suit... Ever
But i did yesterday ha first time to wear a suit in like what 14 months or somthing like that

Wow...sounds like bread is as much as a chocolate bar.  Good luck with that.  I noticed you did not say how much an apple or banana or mango cost.  Do you ever buy any healthy food like that?

Dad was just mentioning how he tried to save a set of shoes and a suit so that he had something nice to wear when he had to see the mission pres or for when he went home.  I hope you give away all your clothes when you are closer to coming home and just wear your one nice suit.  Well maybe keep a change of clothes...just in case.  But then fill your suitcases with any momentos or souvenirs that you want to bring home with you.  But good luck with all that.

20 - 30 bob No for what why would we eat healthy what are we rabbits...

ya that is my plan i won't use my suit unless for special events but after that everything else will be either burned or given to members mostly the 2 but burning stuff is fun lots of funn he he he

Ya but look how cute the bunnies are.  There always fast and have a healthy glow to their fur!!!   So they must be doing something right.  What is 20-30 bob?

What time do you start your day over there?  Are you up with the rising sun?  If you have to be in by six...what do you do after that?

CUTE and fluffy 20 - 30 kWh

we are up at 6 30 we work out until 7 and eat breakfast and have personal study and comp s from 8 til 10 then after that we eat a small lunch and then we buggie

Had to look up the exchange rate quick...

 Canadian Dollar equals
79.96 Kenyan Shilling

Symbol: KSh
Nicknames: Bob

Canadian Dollar equals
1535.84 Tanzanian Shilling

Kenyan Shilling equals
19.21 Tanzanian Shilling

Well...then what happens after that?  You can't leave me hanging in suspense!

We go out side and teach people at 6 we come home

Ok...but then what do you do the rest of the evening?  How many people do you usually teach in a day?

What do you do for working out in the morning?  My workout is just the fact that I got out of bed!

just chill call the zone leaders we are home around 2-3
Lift weights push ups sits ups ???
hahaha everyday for me too
also to stay away from the couch to. If some how it pulls me over there i know it will be over before it even begins

Oh ya...you totally know exactly how I feel!  Except it's the bed that pulls me over!

Hey I forgot to ask you in your little airport/visa drama...was your visa really expired?  Did they charge you legitamitally or was it a scam?

Taylor just came in to say goodbye.  She said you were at a stake conference this weekend...was it televised from Salt Lake or something?  Sounds interesting.  What was your favorite part?

I don't know i didn't have an paper work to say otherwise so either way, doesn't matter anymore i guess,
probably the part when uchdorf told people not to continue the practise of a dowry or bridal pay. ha i almost hit my sit when they talked about it... hehehe to bad u don't live on this side u and dad would be make bank off those girls eh... ha ha ha

 Here's his letter to Ken...

haha hey dad
Hey that sounds like all is going well that side. Good to here that the family is all good. haha ashlee is still ashlee i guess. as for us this side. We are doing good. My comp is good Elder Kisekka from uganda ya all is well. and no complaints so far area is good and the members here are pretty powerful. and we are having lots of fun with them. On sunday we went to Upperhill Nairobi for a stake conference it was great lots of people and missionaries there. Lots of fun actually it was a broadcast from the first presidency to Africa stakes... They where asking the members here to do more serivce for others and missionary work... and to stop the practise  of paying for bride... Which is good but just think if you where over here u would be in a perfect situation making the bank eh... haha but after that we just socialized abit and this old mama in our ward who by the way i have been over to her house like 3 times looked at me and said Hello elder Williams Where are u serving... I looked at her and laughed and said lucky summer.... She looked at me complete shocked. Who is your comp i looked at her don't u remember me... ah then she remember and we laughed and laughed and she just in conclusion said that i was looking sharp and that is why she didn't recognize me...  It was pretty funny. After that well saw Pres Hicken and he gave me those sodas which we enjoyed which was very nice... Also they gave me my worker permit so i ll be good for the next 6 months to stay here in Kenya so all is well... (So long as i care around on me always) shouldn't have a single problem... but ya all is well now and this week was good.
Thanks for writing eh... and good luck this week eh, With work, hunting and your horses.
Love you lots dad
Carson
